Spamalot recap for April 4 & 5

Just returned at the break of dawn today from two marvelous

days getting spammed. Disappointed that we had no stage door

after the Friday and two Saturday shows but Clay certainly

did not disappoint at show time.

I had not seen Spamalot since late February so I was looking

forward to the changeups I had heard of.

Love how more condescending to the king Clay is as the tower

guard! He delivers his lines even more clearly and is getting

major laughs.

As reported earlier his soiling of the pants scenes are even

more outrageous with a louder cry of dismay and larger

looks of dismay in addition to the cute wiggling and

leg shaking to adjust the load in his pants. LOL

We got HUGE amounts of the underside of his tongue during

the slow motion horse riding scene especially on Friday night.

When being serenaded as Sir Robin his facial expressions

have become more pronounced and he nervously

begins to grab at his belt as the dismemberment

sung about becomes increasingly gruesome.

During the drunken guard scene his demeanor is more of

a truly intoxicated man trying to keep his muddled thoughts

in order and not succeeding. His laugh and line about

guarding a guard is even more adorable and emphasized.

My new favorite schtick is when he catches sight of the

beautiful ribbons which adorn is guard lance. The look of

awe on his face as his slender fingers delicately play

with them is so insanely mesmerizing.

As he is lying dead as the guard his breathing is quite

rapid …much more than in Jan. and Feb. LOL Poor baby

really seems to need that rest!

The increased excitement he displays at the sight of the piano,

his very high and deliberate lifting of the tunic as he sits,

and the studied concentration as he tries to position his hands

to begin playing chopsticks make this intro to his big number

even more effective at getting an audience reaction.

After his big number as he plays up to the audience

by accepting our enthusiastic applause

he has this huge grin on his face which dissolves quickly

when he realizes that he is kneeling in front of the king.

All these changes have really made his big number even

more of a show stopper!

At intermission at the Sat. matinee Jerome made sure

that two young ladies were seated in C101 and 102.

One was chosen as the peasant and later they entered

the stage door so clearly they knew someone in the cast.

At the finale his delivery of "I have found my grail…

musical theatre" is much more animated in voice, facial

expression and gestures.

His ovation was easily the biggest but all the performers

got fantastic audience appreciation.

Lots of MEN, NJUs, and Clay fans in attendance. The male

NJU behind me Saturday night was very knowledgeable

about who Clay was and I enjoyed easedropping on his

conversation to his seatmate. All good things!

I saw many around me looking intently at the CD ad in

the Playbill. It has PERFECT placement across from the

cast pictures!

After the Saturday matinee the very good looking man

who some are speculating is the new personal publicist

came out to say Clay would not be coming to the stage door

but we should return in the evening. (Of course, we know

now that Sat. night stagedoor did not happen either). I did

not hear any reason given but I believe it was Friday night

Jerome had come out to intently survey the crowd TWICE

and went back in. Things to make one go hhhmmmm.

There was one downside which I cannot go into here

but will post at Chexxxy’s messageboard. Makes me so

sad for Clay. However, this Spamalot experience was a

stroke ofgenius on his part. That last weekend is going to be so

emotional for many of us. We have built up a lot of memories

over this brief Broadway run.

The one downside in all of this was our misfortune to be

sitting directly in front of FBM and MixnJude on Friday night.

They were smack dab center in row C and so OBNOXIOUS…

I felt bad for any first time attendees. Even though remarks

were made to them and they were shushed a few times,

there was not stopping their rude and crude behavior.

Mix had to give a blow by blow of nearly every scene,

she sang along at times, woohooed or laughed so loudly

that people around cringed. At one point my friend overheard

either her or Jessie say "Take your top off and see if he gets a

hard on". That prompted a man behind them to tell them how

crude they were.

At intermission Jessie left and Mix was texting like crazy.

She was turned slightly to the side and try as I might

I could not see what she was typing. I could kick myself for not

Asking if she were texting Fake Clay. I came so close to

confronting her but did not want to make a scene which

would have reflected badly on Clay. Mix eventually left.

When she returned she reeked of cigarette smoke and

belched, trucker-like during Act II. Certifiable trash!

During the finale Clay did something I have not seen him

do before. For most of it he was turned around talking

to the dancers behind him and he was NOT smiling.

We got the impression that he was disgusted to see

the EWWW CREW front and center once again. He just

gave the impression of wanting to get off that stage as

quickly as possible and to get a hot shower to wash their

filth from him.

It just seemed that Mix in particular is trying to be a loud

and obnoxious as possible. Either she and FBM

are racking up huge debts on their credit cards or

are being financed imho. I wish their was an injunction

which could prevent them from attending more shows.

Here's my recap of the Sunday evening (4/6/08) show:

I took my twin boys to New York City for spring break (they're 11 -- turning 12 next weekend). We had a BLAST! We stayed at the W Hotel in Times Square, on the 55th floor - verrrrrry swanky and cool (way too cool for us bumpkins from Bumpkinville, Georgia, but we didn't care). We had a fantastic view of the hotel next door and a little itty bit of a view of New York City if you pressed yourself right up to the glass and looked out the corner of our window. Oh well. We weren't in the room all that much anyway. One really nice thing about that hotel was that they had a DVD Library that you could check out a movie from for free, so on Saturday night, we watched "Monty Python & the Holy Grail." The boys had seen it once before on an old, old videotape I had, so they were stoked to watch it again on DVD. I swear I think they had the whole thing memorized by the time we got to actually see Spamalot.

We did the Musuem of Natural History on Sunday morning (I HIGHLY recommend the "Cosmic Collissions" show that's running there - it was an amazing experience - just stunning). The musuem took up most of our afternoon. Spamalot wasn't to start until 7:00, but the boys were antsy to get going, so we left the hotel to have dinner at Juniors about 5:00. Needless to say, we were way early! The boys bugged me to buy them some coconuts and then I spent a half an hour before the show in the Shubert Alley watching my kids clip-clop all over the place.

The boys LOVED our seats - we were in the second row and so close you could see the spit flying. (They asked me if actors always spit that much and I told them I didn't know for sure cuz I hardly ever get to sit that close but that I expect it's a pretty common occurrence.)

The lady who sat next to me told me that Clay was sick and missed the afternoon show and my heart fell right to the floor for a second, but she told me that he would be doing the show for us (the evening performance), so I was EXTREMELY thankful for that. The kids would have been just crushed if Clay wasn't there. (And I would've been too.)

Clay has gotten so much better than when I saw him opening night. Now, he just seems so at home in his roles. The boys absolutely loved it when he pooped himself. The part I liked the best was the look on Clay's face during the bottledance. Good lord, talk about sexy. The boys got a big kick out of Hannah (I think they were mesmerized by Hannah's . . . "large tracts of land," if you wanna know the truth).

And last, and definitely least, I did have one HUGE complaint. I was so stoked to have scored those second row seats and I never even considered that I might be forced to sit directly in front of Mix and FBM. Ugh. [For those that don't know, at one time, I considered Mix a friend - up until the whole Fake Clay mess on the Bolt board, anyway.] They were there with Hockeydonna (I presume) and some little girl (not FBM's little girl - this girl had long dark hair and was older - maybe 7 or 8 - and she sat in between Hockeydonna and FBM). I didn't acknowledge any one of them when they sat down and just continued the conversation I was having with the lady sitting next to me. I didn't want to give them any recognition whatsoever. But, it was soooooo annoying having to sit right in front of them. Besides the fact that none of them seem to know how to chew their freakin gum with their mouths closed -- it was soooo loud and obnoxious -- every time Clay was off the stage, and I mean EVERY time, Mix and FBM were talking - and not in whispers or anything. It was the rudest behavior toward the rest of the cast and so disruptive to the people sitting around them. They left for the intermission but, sadly, they came back and FBM was going on about how "She hates me. She f**king hates me." She said it several times and I thought, Okay, she obviously WANTS me to hear her (I felt like turning around and punching her right in the mouth for using the "f" word in front of not just my kids but the little girl sitting right next to her! But I knew that wouldn't set a good example either so I ignored her). I wondered what the story was that she wanted me so desperately to overhear. It was only several days later that I learned Clay's mother was in the audience that night, so I'm assuming FBM was telling her looney friends that because Clay's mother didn't talk to her during the intermission or something, that she "fucking hates her." Certifiable delusional loon.

Anyway, the boys had a blast despite the trash mouth queen and her band of loudmouth looney friends. I think one of my boys might actually want to get into music or drama or something, from how much he goes on about the show (which is so cool cuz if he does, Clay would have been, at least in part, his inspiration). Or his enthusiasm could just be a passing thing -- we'll just have to wait and see.

This is not a recap, but just want to report that I went to see the Spamalot evening show on Saturday April 26th, and unexpectedly - also the matinee on Sunday the 27th.

I loved the show, as I expected, since I've been a long time fan of Monty Python. Clay's acting is very good, maybe a little over the top, but this show requires it. In fact, Hannah Waddingham "overacted like hell", just like she has promised in her song. This was a wonderful adventure for me!

I met a very adorable Fan4Clay from this board. I got a kick out of the fact that I discovered Shycon was there as well, and that she finally found out that I was on Chexxy's (we have know each other from earlier encounters (waves to Shycon).

I had a wonderful luck to get on stage in a group of 5 other ladies, to get a group picture with Clay. We were invited by our online friend, and a very generous and sweet Clay fan, to be with her in the picture she paid for!

For the record, I have to report this: at the matinee show on Sunday the 27th, Krissie/Jessie, and probably the whole "eww crew" was there. At first I saw Krissie at the Intermission standing by the bar. She was in the company of Huskerfalcon, and a very young Clay fan, whose name I won't mention, because she is underage. Then Krissie went back to her seats, which were somewhere in the row B, while HF went with the girl to the merchandise stand, and they were picking out t-shirts. For a while, I had thought the girl was with her mother, but then I suddenly realized who she was. This gives me some concern - the fact that the girl who's only 15, hangs out with these loonies.

After the show, I stayed for some time to watch people getting their pictures taken with Clay. I was in the back, and I saw Krissie standing with Mix in their row. They were looking at the stage every now and them, and discussed something. I was curious if they would go for the picture. They were in the center of the row, and at some point Mix yelled "Donna!" towards the end of the row. That's why I am saying the whole eww creww was there. However, I could not see very well the spot where "Donna" was located (people were blocking), so I never saw HD, but I am assuming it was her.

Anyway, Krissie and Mix did not go on stage, and went together towards the exit. The young girl exited earlier, happy with her picture that she took with HF, who was "mothering" her.

Mix had very dark hair. In the lobby I saw her upclose for the first time, and saw that she really didn't look good at all. She looked physically sick to me, and her face had an angry or unhappy expression. She immediately pulled out a cigarette and smoked. Krissie's face actually looks "sweet", with the constant dumb smile on her face. After Mix finished smoking, the two of them, went to the ticket window . Mix was texting while standing in the small line. I am pretty sure, they had evening tickets waiting there for them. This is all so bizzarre!

I left the lobby, and went with my friends towards the stage door , where we got our Playbills autographed by Tom Deckmann and Hannah. Hannah is really very pretty without the stage make up. I mean, REALLY pretty. And nice.

I like her, because at the Saturday evening show, when Clay had his speech about donating money to Broadway Cares - she yelled : "and you will get your picture, with the incredibly sexy and handsome, Clay Aiken!"
